This April, at Milan Design Week 2025, Mush Composites unveiled a quiet yet powerful gesture a material born from the earth, shaped by time, and guided by the soul of Thai craftsmanship.
As part of Slowhand Design & Front100: “CUTIE THAI: Plaisir d’Amour” at Superstudio Più,
we presented Mush Art Tiles: a living surface cultivated from mycelium,
bringing nature’s logic into the language of design.
Grown with Intention: What Are Mush Art Tiles?
Mush Art Tiles begin with what’s often overlooked—rice husks, sawdust, and agricultural byproducts.
Bound by mycelium, nature’s underground network, each tile takes shape slowly and uniquely.
As it grows, the material reveals natural textures, warm tones, and organic patterns—no two tiles are ever the same.
They are lightweight, biodegradable, and entirely toxin-free, offering a new kind of material for spaces seeking balance, story, and substance.
Whether applied as wall panels, spatial dividers, or decorative features,
Mush Art Tiles invite a quieter, more rooted approach to design—
one that honors imperfection, celebrates process, and speaks with a gentle kind of presence.
A River of Light and Craft
Our Milan installation, created in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University,
took inspiration from Loy Krathong—Thailand’s annual festival of light, where lanterns, delicately crafted from local natural materials , are released onto rivers as offerings of gratitude to the spirits of water.
In the exhibition, the tiles flowed in soft waves, echoing the movement of water and the poetic act of release.
As light passed across the surface, it unveiled subtle patterns—evoking the essence of Thai design and the quiet mastery of northern craft traditions.
More than a cultural homage, the installation served as a design prototype:
a vision for how Mush Art Tiles can be seamlessly integrated with natural materials like wood,
shaping interiors that feel warm, elemental, and alive with meaning.
A River of Light and Craft
At Mush Composites, we believe that materials can do more than serve a function—
they can connect us to nature, to heritage, and to each other.
They can be grown, not manufactured. Felt, not just seen.
If you’re envisioning a space, a collection, or a future
where every material choice tells a story—
we would be honored to explore that journey with you.
